How to Clean a Stroller: A Step by Step Guide

Your stroller is designed to tackle everyday life and go with you on your travels, wherever your adventures may take you. With this comes dirt, muck, splashes, and spills.

Keeping your stroller in top condition will not only keep it fresh for your baby and also have it looking its best. But how exactly do you clean it to achieve the brand new look?

Nobody likes a dirty pram. So, in today's blog, we will talk you through step-by-step on how to get rid of stubborn stains, and how to give your pram a good wash so it’s nice and fresh for your baby. So gather your cleaning supplies and let's take a look!

Why Is Keeping Your Pram Clean Important?

Babies and toddlers have developing immune systems, making them more susceptible to illnesses and infections. A clean pram is essential for your child's safety.

Regular stroller cleaning reduces the risk of exposing your child to harmful germs, bacteria buildup, and allergens that can accumulate on dirty surfaces.

Regularly wiping down your stroller can help you maintain its hygiene and ensure there is no build-up of loose crumbs within the stroller fabric.

If you keep on top of wiping down your stroller frame and seat fabric regularly using disinfectant wipes , you will be able to get away with only having to deep clean your stroller once a month.

How to Clean Your Stroller

To make sure you are getting to all the hard-to-reach places on your pram, you should take away all the removable parts and wash them separately. Hand wash any material pieces in a natural cleaning solution or a mild detergent.

Here are some step by step instructions on how to clean baby stroller fabric and frames.

Step One - Prep

Firstly, prepare your stroller and remove stroller parts and materials, and prepare a bowl of warm soapy water as well as some clean cloths.

It's essential that you read the manufacturer's instructions carefully before you start to ensure all products are suitable for your pram.

Step Two - Hoover

If your baby eats and drinks in their stroller, there are most likely loose crumbs and dust gathered in the pushchair seat - as well as in the cup holders!

Be sure to use a handheld vacuum cleaner using the nozzle attachment to remove loose dirt before you start. This can help to make the cleaning process as easy as possible and will provide a deeper clean.

Step Three - Soap

Once you have removed any crumbs and checked that the cleaning products you are using are safe for the pram fabrics and don't use any harsh chemicals, you can begin to take a damp cloth and scrub away at your stroller removing any mould stains.

Use a small amount of mild soap with warm water. Too much soap can make your pram too soapy, which can be hard to remove and can leave a sticky soap residue.

Gently scrub the stroller's fabric with a soft cloth - a microfiber one is a good choice. Use it to gently clean the fabric of your stroller.

If your stroller has any tough stains on it, then you might want to use some extra stain remover to help remove them.

Use a soft fabric brush or toothbrush if you need to. This can ensure you get into all the hard-to-reach areas and to help you get into the fibres of the fabric to fully remove the stains.

Step Four - Rinse

Now, take a wet cloth with no soap and wash away all the residue by giving the pram a good scrub. Keep repeating until your stroller is free of suds and soap residue.

Step Five- Wipe Over and Dry

Next, take a soft towel and dry your pram while making sure that the entire stroller frame is completely dry of excess water - especially if the pram is metal as this will prevent rust.

You could also take a spray bottle with disinfectant and a soft cloth to make sure the pram is completely free of germs and safe.

Finally, you should leave it outside in a well-ventilated area to air dry completely. Once you have wiped it down with a dry cloth, some parts may still be damp, like the fabric parts. Air drying outside can make sure it is nice and fresh ready for your baby to use again.

Once dry, always store your stroller indoors in a cool dry place to avoid it becoming damp again and also prevent mould.

Cleaning Your Stroller Wheels

To clean your stroller wheels, it is important to remove any debris that has become stuck in your wheel tyres. If you can easily remove your stroller wheels, then it may be a good idea to do so, as it will be easier to clean them.

Use a hard bristled scrubbing brush to brush away debris, sand, or bits from the wheels. Wipe the wheels with hot soapy water to buff the dirt away. You could even leave them to soak in hot soapy water as this can lift some of the stubborn dirt.

Then, rinse them off with cold water and allow them to fully air dry before reattaching.
