Why Keep Your Stroller Clean?

It is important to keep your stroller clean, not only because it will look the part, keeping it looking smart and fresh, but also for the health of your little one. When babies are young, their immune systems have not fully developed, so it is important to practise good hygiene and clean your stroller regularly.

This means helping to limit the number of germs and bacteria that your little one will come into contact with while riding in their stroller, as they are likely to pick up enough from elsewhere!

If you keep your stroller clean regularly, then you won’t need to deep clean it very often.

How to Clean Your Stroller

If you are unsure of how to tackle the cleaning of your stroller, then just have a read below to gather some points on how you can clean your stroller so that it is sparkling clean and looking brand new again.

Top tip: You might want to clean your stroller outside so as not to cause any mess inside your home and so you can give your stroller some good ventilation while you clean it.

Step One - Hoover

With a little one, there are bound to be bits, crumbs, and dust gathered in your stroller seat as well as in the basket beneath. First, you will want to give it a good hoover to eliminate all the bits and pieces and debris that have accumulated in your stroller. It is essential that you do this before you begin cleaning.

Step Two - Soap

Always check your stroller's individual care instructions, as every stroller will have a different set of instructions as they are all made with different materials.

Once you have done this and have successfully hoovered up any debris, it is time to clean your stroller with soap.

You will want to mix a very small amount of soap with lukewarm water. Too much soap, and you will have a very soapy stroller that will be full of suds that will be difficult to remove.

Gently clean the fabric with a cloth - a microfiber one is a good choice, use it to gently clean the fabric of your stroller. If your stroller has any stains on it, then you might want to use some extra stain remover to help you get those out. Use a soft fabric brush or toothbrush if you need to, to get into all the nooks and crannies and to help you get into the fibres of the fabric to fully remove the stains.

Step Three - Rinse

Rinse your stroller by rinsing your cloth in clean water and wiping off any of the suds on the stroller. Repeat this until your stroller is free of soap and suds.

Step Four - Wipe Over

It is a good idea to clean any of the hard areas of your stroller - including the frame. Go over these areas with a disinfectant spray or some disinfectant wipes.

This will kill any of the germs or bacteria that are still harbouring themselves on the hard surfaces of your stroller and will help to ensure that your baby will be safe from picking up bugs. This will also make your stroller sparkle and keep it smelling fresh.

If there are any spills, dirt, or grime stuck on any of the hardware of your stroller, you should go back in with soapy water to scrub and your soft brush, toothbrush, or a soft scouring sponge to clean off any dirty marks. Once this has been done, you can rinse or wipe off the soapy suds once again.

Step Five - Leave to Dry

Once you have completed the above steps, it is time to let your stroller dry. To do this, you will want it to air dry, and it is best to leave it outside to dry completely. Because of this, it is ideal to clean your stroller on a dry day.

Leaving it outside to air dry rather than indoors will leave the longest-lasting fresh smell, just like fresh washing on your washing line. Once dry, always store your stroller indoors, in a cool dry place to avoid it becoming damp again.

If you still believe your stroller to be dirty at the end of the process, go back and repeat the necessary steps until you have a sparkling, fresh-looking, and smelling stroller!

To Clean Your Stroller Wheels

To clean your stroller wheels, it is important to remove any debris that has become stuck in your wheel tyres. If you can easily remove your stroller wheels, then it may be a good idea to do so, as it will be easier to clean them.

Use a hard bristled brush to brush away debris, sand, or bits from the wheels and their tyres.

Next, scrub the wheels with warm soapy water again. This will help get rid of the remaining dirt and leave them looking really clean. Hot water can be used to remove stubborn marks or dirt that you are struggling to budge!

Give your wheels a rinse with clean water, let them air dry, and you should be good to go.
